Let’s start off by acknowledging that there are few certainties in life except for death and taxes. And agreed, for some there is a way that they are able to cheat the taxman, so no taxes for them, or at least they are not paying their fair share. But we can definitely say that death will come to us all despite what some millionaire lunatic who is looking for the fountain of youth thinks.
Yes, eventually everything and everyone dies, unless of course you are an inanimate object like a rock. However even then the elements do wear the rock down until it too disappears into oblivion as well, or at least crumbles into dust. Ok, so in truth though while the outside composition of the rock changes, its atomic makeup doesn’t change. Or maybe it does, like how the elements change to make steel or glass. (of course if I am wrong and as a scientist you know you are right leave a note in the comments.) Now I am not saying that I know about atomic structure or elemental composition at all. I did not do well in chemistry in high school (I do blame it on the teacher), but considering up until a few weeks ago I couldn’t figure out what the difference was between the terms “sex” and “gender” (silly me always thought they were the same thing) I do not hold to the position that when it comes to anything scientific I know what I am talking about.
But what I do know about is that people have lost their damn minds. Barking and arguing as if they are in a meth fueled meltdown about absolutely everything. No matter what it is, the world is now going to come to an end. Everything is hopeless. The world is going to become a dystopian nightmare.
Enough already.
Who truly has the energy for this crap?
Listen there are issues we all have to face in life. Some of them little annoyances while others can be overwhelming. I know. I get it. I’ve had to face so many myself. But I never once decided that everything was going to be horrible. I realized in the end, there was always a way to work things out.
Ok, so maybe that was a luxury belief. Maybe I am in such a position in life that I feel that no matter how bad things get, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. And yes I know that for many in this world that may not be an option. I suspect it depends where you live, too.
If you are a woman in Afghanistan, having to deal with restriction after restriction, be it no school, no leaving the home, or even speaking to another woman/person because your voice should never be heard, because you have a vagina, your life is a dystopian nightmare. The handmaid’s tale come to life, which interestingly enough the western feminists don’t think is a big deal even as they walk around in red handmaidens robes decrying the western male gaze.
If you are a woman living in an Islamist nation where honor killings are looked as a male’s right. (And a male’s sullied honor can be anything from talking to a nonmale relative to being raped) Then you live in constant fear of being murdered. This is a hellscape, another one that western feminists do not seem to care about.
If you live in a backwards society, that thinks its ok to mutilate a girls cervix, what is called female genital mutilation, in order to ensure that she is a virgin when she gets married, then yes you live in world of pain and risk fistula or death when giving birth. Never mind there will never be any pleasure in sex as well. And western feminists think this is just a cultural expression. Nothing to worry about and nothing to talk about. They might insult the culture of an oppressed people, ignoring the fact that women in those societies are the ones oppressed, not the men.
See there are situations where there is a hellscape and a dystopian world in which people live. We can talk about human trafficking here in the US if you would like as well. One of the side effects of an open border policy. For those caught in this evil web there is no light at the end of a tunnel, unless the authorities in the US decide that the lives of these women, and children actually matter. But considering Homeland security lost over 300,000 children in the past 4 years, I figure that the powers that be don’t actually give a rats ass except for photo ops and poll numbers. (I did hear that the new director of Homeland security is looking for those children now. I hope they find them. Hopefully, they haven’t ended up being abused. )
So yes, I get that there are those who aren’t fortunate enough to be able to pick themselves up by their bootstraps and start another day with hope.
But that doesn’t mean that in my world I didn’t catastrophize continually. I think it comes from having children with issues, and having to rely on the kindness of strangers for them to receive the support that they needed. And yes, while they always didn’t get what they needed without me throwing a legal hissy fit, eventually things did work themselves out. But you can rest assured that living through it wasn’t like going to The Met Gala even though we knew in the end we were in the right.
Catastrophizing is what I would always do. I would come up with the worse case scenario and then build up from there. When going into a meeting about mychildren’s IEP (Individualized Education Program prescribe by law) for how the coming educational year would be handled, I always thought about what I would do if what they needed was refused. I would then figure out the law, the discussion and how I would handle the issue. Honestly, I always went into those meetings with Plan, A, then Plan B, then Plan C and all the way to Plan Z. I always said plan for the worst, but hope for the best.
I learned to do this because the few times that I was not prepared I was blindsided by the school/teachers/ therapists and had to recoup my barings. I think if you walk into meetings figuring out how you would approach the world if it doesn’t go your way, but end up happy because things work out, then you are prepared.
People who have actually never had to face adversity don’t really understand this way of thinking. If your life has taken the typical path, then while there are issues to face, for we all have problems, you really don’t know what it means to deal with trauma and fear. That is when the littlest things become earth shattering life ending catastrophes.
As I have mentioned, I did not vote for Trump and refuse to be pulled into the circle jerk of dystopian, “oh my fucking God we are all going to die” every time he or Musk open their mouths. No, the world is not going to end. Ok, yes, well Trump could start a nuclear war with Russia or China, but I really doubt that that is going to happen. In reality, Russia, China and even North Korea have too much to lose. A devastated world is not a great world to rule over. And I have yet to hear that Trump wants to start a war anyway.
In fact, wasn’t his entire thing about ending wars? Well except for the one with Hamas. In that one he rightfully wants to devastate Hamas. Of course, to do that he would need to kick Qatar to the curb, but that is not going to happen anytime soon especially since CENTCOM is located in Doha, and also there is just too much money at stake in the business world to cut off Qatar (even though this would be a good step to ending the reign of terror of Islamists worldwide).
But it did elicit a meltdown by left wing progressive many antiIsrael Jews in the US when Trump said he wants to move the 2 million Palestinians out of Gaza and build resorts and a flourishing economy. These jackasses took out an ad in the New York Times decrying this as ethnic cleansing. (Note to the likes of the Reform-Conservative Jewish Movements, when you side with people who want to destroy the State of Israel, and send the Jews back to subjugation, even if they are Jews themselves, maybe you should rethink your knee jerk anti-Trump position on a particular issue involving the survival of the Jewish People.) Oh my freaking God, these people are so pathetic. Apart from the fact that people move out of war zones all the time, the only reason the Palestinians didn’t move out of Gaza was because no one would take them. So much for brotherly love.
Neighboring states took in Ukrainian refugees when Russia attacked so tell me why no one thought to take in the Palestinian civilians. Israel asked Egypt to set up refugee camps in the Sinai for these people to get them out of harm’s way and they refused. The Biden administration, which wanted to hamstring Israel in its war with Hamas (have to protect Iran and its proxies at all costs), didn’t push Egypt. Funny how Trump pushed Egypt on his plan for rebuilding Gaza and suddenly the Arab states are coming up with their own plan since none of them want to take in Islamist-Muslim Brotherhood loving Palestinians too.
But this is what I mean by catastrophizing. By the way, did anyone actually bother to ask the average person stuck in the hellscape of the destroyed Gaza if they would like to move to a place where they have access to electricity, running water and housing or if they prefer to live in tents for the next decade or so. Ok, yes, I know, everyone is acting as if the war in Gaza is over, but we all know in the bottom of our hearts it is not over by a long shot. (No this is not catastrophizing, this is being realistic)
So people catastrophize about absolutely everything.
Eggs. Oh my goodness don’t get me started on eggs. Not sure Trump has control over the avian flu in birds, but the newscycle is sure acting like he does. The world is coming to an end because Costco is limiting the number of cartons of eggs people can buy, and of course, there are thieves stealing eggs. $40,000 worth of eggs to be exact. I literally laughed until I cried when I heard this. Leave it to enterprising Americans to make a quick buck. (Ok sad for the farm that was the victim of this heist, but it really is funny, in a not so funny ironic kind of way.)
Climate. Straws and leaving the Climate Accords. But this is going to now cause the world to implode faster, sooner and with more devastating consequences. We are all going to be living on Arrakis. Mordor is the future. Listen, climate is a thing. We all know that, but unless you hold the biggest polluters (China and India) to account nothing we do is going to make a difference. Plastic is all bad, not just straws. We need to get rid of all plastics somehow. Don’t ask me how. As I said I am not a scientist. But it has to be done. Microplastics will kill us eventually. It is making us sick (no I am not an RFK, Jr, conspiracy addict, but even a broken clock is right twice a day). But we need to think it through, not catastrophize, use intelligent brains and make sure the biggest criminals are held to account. (No I have no idea how to do any of this).
As I have said before, and I reiterate, I did not vote for Trump. I never voted for Trump. Yes, I have faith in the constitutional system. Yes I have faith in the courts. Yes, the system will work. No we do not have a constitutional crisis.
Again catastrophizing because he said he wants a 3rd term. (Remember everyone calls Biden’s presidency Obama’s 3rd term. There does seem to be workarounds for some to Constitutional prohibitions and not a peep out of any Henny Pennys.) Take him seriously or not, but use a level head and get things done correctly.
And speaking of Chicken Little, or Henny Penny, the moral of that story is, not to panic and make rash judgements. Think things through logically, succinctly, and intelligently. Taken together with the story about the boy who cried wolf, catastrophizers need to remember that eventually you will exhaust society with your hellscape, dystopian, “oh my freaking God” reaction to every issue or concern. Exhausted people will not have the strength to counteract true evil when it happens. And true evil lurks in the background ready to pounce when you least expect it. Just ask the Israelis who are still being held captive in the terror dungeons of Gaza if you don’t believe me that true evil exists in this world.
IT IS DAY 497 OF THE HOSTAGES BEING STARVED AND HELD IN THE TERROR DUNGEONS OF GAZA 🎗️

I agree so much! I’m so tired of liberal meltdowns. They didn’t meltdown on October 7.8 or following. They made fun of me for crying about the murdered and raped Israelis and worrying constantly about our hostages. No they freak out when a president is democratically and peacefully elected. I’m actually on SNAP and Medicaid and I’m not freaking out - I’m following what is actually happening while working to get a new full time job with benefits again. Focusing on solutions instead of freaking out about the problem. Love this piece !!!!
You are 100 percent correct in saying "...it's not over by a long shot" - or a short shot. And re Qatar. Definitely unsettling times watching all this play out. Good thing Hashem is a high tower and strong fortress, as David says.
