I say less than 10

Maybe we are both wrong. Maybe its even less…or maybe we need to have more faith in our fellow Americans?…but sometimes its really hard to have faith when hatred comes knocking at your door, and the majority response is what did you do to cause it, (sort of like her skirt was too short), rather than lets fight to get rid of the haters.

The husband and I were having one of those conversations that you thought you would never have. I especially never thought I would have this with my husband, a Jewish man raised with a Christmas tree in his childhood home. Yes, I fell in love with a young man completely separated from his Jewish heritage. He was like most young Jewish Americans of our generation and beyond. (Remember that was over 40 years ago. Alot has happened since then. I call my husband a born-again-Jew. I know the Hebrew term is baal teshuvah, but he is not that kind of follow-the- religious-law keeping Jew. He is more the modern version of the angry pissed off kind of Jew.)

“How many years do you think Jews have left in the US? he asked me as we walked out dog around the block. “I think we have 20 years. Once these assholes from Harvard and the likes of AOC, get the reigns of power they will really make it difficult for Jews to even walk down the street.”

“We have less time, “ I responded. “Maybe 10 years. Especially if the democrats think her and the Squad are the future of their party, and the woke right is on the ascent for the GOP. “

Neither of us said a word at that point. We just walked the dog home, and I checked the renewal date on our passports.

You see America was once hailed as the challenge to Israel when it came to a thriving Jewish community. Jews were considered the most respected religion in the country, just a few years ago. Happily ensconced in the American dream, the Jewish American community never thought that life would really change for them. They were part and parcel of every aspect of the American landscape. The idea that antisemitism would rule the day was something past generations had to worry about. Those days when Jews had to deal with closed country clubs, university quotas, exclusion from the levers of power in politics and finance were bygone and part of a distant past. America was the exception in Jewish history. A place in the diaspora where Jews were safe.

Well, we’re not safe anymore, are we?

Actually, our safety was always an illusion, the majority of us just didn’t know that. But I grew up in the 1960s and 1970s, with a father who worked behind bullet proof glass with uzi machine gun toting guards because he worked for a Jewish organization. The Free Palestine murderers are not new, not in the west and not in Israel, they just went by different names.

So what happened in the US? Hatred happened. It not only happened, but it was embraced, trumpeted, and magnified by leaders in what is supposed to be the enlightened western democratic nations. These spineless leaders found a new voting bloc who believe that

The only people in the world who are not allowed to defend themselves from barbarians are Jews. The only people in the world who are not allowed to govern themselves in their indigenous homelands are the Jews. The only people who have to beg for the right to be seen as human beings entitled to the same rights as everyone else are the Jews. The only people who are held to a ridiculous standard in war or how their society functions are the Jews. The only people that are condemned for defending their children from mass murder are the Jews.

Well this is what I say to the leaders of these so-called western democracies (and all International organizations)- Go Fuck Yourselves.

Meanwhile you could lay blame in any number of areas as to what the hell happened:

You could say it was the larger Jewish leadership that ignored the warning signs for decades, which they did.

You could say politicians who spouted antisemitism were embraced by machiavellian politicos thinking to glom onto a new base of power, from both the left and the right, which they did.

You could say it was the hyped antisemitism of social media, which it is. Algorithms spread hatred, and regime controlled platforms spread their insidious propaganda against Jews, Israel, the USA, and western democratic freedoms.

You could say it is an education system that doesn’t actually bother to educate, which it is. History takes time and is full of actual facts. With a teaching regime which doesn’t even bother to make children learn their math facts who is going to make them actually learn history? (I mean the poor babies might be bored or some such fucking stupidity-welcome to Common Core)

With a teaching regime where the majority of children can’t read, write, and comprehend at grade level, who is going to require these young people to explore topics and reality? They don’t even bother to require high schoolers to read novels anymore, and most colleges have to offer remedial classes in both english and math.

You could say that the Marxist-Soviet cult which died in its homeland, grew in the west because the spoiled useless entitled brats of the upper middle class have no real morals or ethics, which it did. Everything goes. And you need to live your truth. And apparently, its unfair that if you want something, like a fancy vacation or designer clothes, you have to earn it.

(For these maleducated and overindulged losers they decide that its those dastardly Jews who are too powerful.. That the Jews control the media, the banks and the space lasers. The Jews are why you can’t have nice things, not that you are lazy, incompetent, or malevolent. Why do you think university students in Australia turned their back on their fellow Jewish students when they began to discuss antisemitism in a seminar on hatred. Antisemitism is seen as punching up so its ok. These pathetic dilettantes decide that Jews and Jews alone have to renounce their heritage in order to have any future at all in their solipsistic narcissistic fascist world, both left or right.)

You could say that those who are teachers are merely pathetic revolutionary wannabes, which they are. They think that the mass murderers of past revolutions are heroes rather than psychopaths. When universities pass off Che, Stalin, Mao or Pol Pot (never mind Foucault, Fanon, or post humanism) as the epitome of what someone needs to do to change the world there is something wrong with how the world educates the educators. (Check your children’s text books. See the drivel that is being taught.)

You could say it is easy to scapegoat Jews, its been done for eons, when things are hard, weird, or its just not your day, which it is. So why not jump on the bandwagon and go with what makes you genetically feel comfortable?

You could say it is the influence of malign actors, which it is. Those with billions of dollars of wealth and access, who are pushing an agenda and buying space in our world in order to destroy it from within.

But who is letting them and why is it so easy to believe the lies they push? Who is amplifying their hatred and their disdain for our freedoms. Because believe me, those who are pushing Jew-hatred and murderous intentions against Israel, are not friends of democracy and human rights, no matter the color of the keffiyeh they wrap themselves in.

Hatred festers like a boil on the body politic. It creates division. It looks for a savior. Someone to come in and solve the problems of the day without actually pointing a finger at those who hate. It is the cancer that rots a society and removes from it any modicum of fresh air to breath.

Historians like to say that history has hinge points. Where a society can go one way or the other. Today there is a fight for the future whether we see it or not. The questions become which way are we going to push our country? Oh politicos can condemn the senseless murder of Jews, or those who were thought to be Jews, without taking any of the blame for giving license to everything that is happening. They make excuses for judenhass anywhere and everywhere by blaming the victims something they would never do to any other group.

But ultimately the mantel of who you are and what you wish to become is all on you.

The husband likes to remind me that the Nazis did not think that what they were doing made them evil. Even though, unlike Hamas, they did try to hide their barbarism from the world because they knew murder was still murder. And yes, unlike the civilian population of Gaza, there were also some righteous people who tried to save Jews from the Nazis in Europe.

(It is also important to take note that with all the antiHamas protests now starting in Gaza there are no righteous gentiles in Gaza. We have seen that the hostages were actually held in private apartments, with civilians as their guards. This is a reminder that not 1 Gazan civilian came forward with information about the hostages even when offered millions of dollars. In fact, when some hostages managed to escape they were recaptured by civilians and turned over to Hamas. And a bulk of those who invaded and committed barbaric acts on October 7 were Gazan civilians. This is what happens when a society is educated to think that pursuing genocide (real genocide not the bullshit charges being thrown at Israel) is the ultimate expression of their religious obligations.)

Remember the war in Gaza could be over tomorrow if the hostages were returned, Hamas disarmed, and relocated. There would have also been no war in Gaza if October 7th hadn’t happened.

The ultimate hinge point right now is to ask yourself exactly what kind of society do you want to hand over to your children? Do you want a society of Jacobin mass murderers or those who believe in freedom?

Either way, right now I am not sure where I will be living a decade from now. Honestly, its up to you America if you can keep the promise you made to the world. Will the US remain the shining beacon on the hill?

P.S. the Jewish People have survived worse over 4,000 years. We will be here in the future, proud and unwavering, no matter what you decide for yourselves and your posterity.
