Ambergris is a substance found in the intestine of a whale. Used to stabilize perfume. Very rare to say the least. When you apply to your body you could be covering yourself in whale vomit. It is only used in the finest of perfumes.

I had actually heard of this years ago. That is why I stick with the more moderately priced perfumes.😉

Interestingly, apparently it is banned in the US and Australia but not in the EU. I guess if they sell perfume in the US then it can't have this as an element. Just need to make sure not to ever buy perfume in Europe.

Love this :

Formulas can change. Ideas can develop. Hates can metastasize. Stupidity can manifest itself as selfrighteousness. But we should never lose the smell instinct. Essentially it is what has kept us alive as a species, with or without perfume.

Interesting and well written, as usual. Having no smell after a car accident 42 years ago, I'm lucky to have kept my ability to taste. One of my cousins lost that ability due to AVC's but kept her ability to smell. Concerning "smelling" things like danger, it's a matter of adapting, taking precautions and for me, follow my instinct. Fortunately I have friends to help me choosing certain basic cosmetic products.

Thank you for sharing your writing 🙏🏽

Thank you for the compliment. I’m sorry you lost your sense of smell. It’s amazing how we can adapt, and I’m glad you have a wonderful support system.

I wear Chanel#5 every day. A Timeless Classic. They ruined Shalimar. Joy also was ruined when they changed it. My husband bought me a bottle of Fueguila when he was last in NYC. It’s so perfectly me but I can’t buy it in NZ. Alas.

I was thinking about Joy too. Buthad actually not seen it for awhile. I had to look up Fueguila. I had never heard of it before. But now I am intrigued. Sorry you can't find it near you.

Oh no if they reformulated Shalimar!

It's one of my favorites.

Cheers from another afficionado.

Thank you for the comment. I never know why they can't leave classics alone. Sigh.

The security lapses that allowed the oct7 attack didn’t make sense to me. If I had a homicidal next door neighbor I would know every time they flushed their toilet.

But thanks for letting me know about the Chanel brand. I love 19

I don’t get the security lapse either. I think they really thought the tech would take care of it, which Hamas was able to override, and they also ignored the watcher girls who said something was going on. That is why people are calling for a nongovernmental inquiry which unfortunately Bibi is saying is not needed. Shame on him.
