Thanks for letting me know. I actually googled the quote before adding it to make sure who said it, and google told me it was Thatcher. So much for google being the arbiter of facts....hmmm (BTW I'm going to leave it the way I wrote it and let people read this comment instead😊)
Your post highlights a significant issue contributing to our downward spiral in the US. Parents have abdicated any responsibility for parenting. Juvenile accountability? Must be an Elzsabethen concept, non?
I worked in Job Corps for a time and regularly saw students incapable of signing their names or telling analog time. Supposed HS grads. This is the generation that will the next leaders? We're not in a good place.
It was my understanding that schools decided to stop teaching cursive writing since everyone was using a computer. They only brought it back a few years ago realizing that hand to brain connection for learning. So no children cant sign their names. And they also don't teach anything analog. But in truth I am not sure that schools really teach much nowadays except political indoctrination. I feel really bad for these children. They are never going to function in our world or they are simply going to be those who pick up after the "elite." The forever servant class. It's truly medieval. They are taught no life or survival skills.
The parents of these young adults (in age at least) are pathetic losers focused on being “Cool Parent” You’re not your kids friend you’re their parent it’s not a popularity contest ugh pathetic
Many parents - if they apply rules at all - often do it without giving explanation. No wonder there's massive division and no clarity about Good & Bad (Evil).
All "depends on context" 🤦🏽🤦🏽🤦🏽 has no value without BASIC EDUCATION ABOUT GOOD AND Bad.
Or simplified : do not do to others what you wouldn't do to yourself.
In Proverbs there’s a verse that says, ‘there is a way that seems right to a person, but its end is the way of death’. I’m either a realist or a pessimist, but in my younger years, it simply wouldn’t be possible for someone to stand on a stage in the US and live out the five propaganda principles of Goebbels. I no longer recognize the country I grew up in. Unless there’s a divine intervention here, we’re toast - yes, think I can smell it starting to burn 😉🌼.
Yes, it is really simple. Teaching the golden rule used to be expected as part of an upbringing. Not sure when we lost our way as a society.
I am not sure that many parents even bother to parent in today’s world. Whether there is an explanation or not. They have abrogated their responsibilities to the schools and that is why public schools are such a mess too.
Priorities of many of today’s parents are very skewed. There is very little emphasis on being a good person, but alot on doing what you have to in order to get into an elite college.
The Good Book says, maybe in Proverbs, “From my youth i went astray.” A child needs to be taught right from wrong. And it also says, “as a tree is bent, so it lieth.”
Teaching right from wrong seems to be something people don't do anymore. They didn't do it when my children were little either, but it simply seems to have gotten worse.
Perhaps you may have read what G-D was recorded to have said when He visited Avraham, “should I hide from Avraham what I am going to do (Sodom—destroy it because of its evil), seeing I know Avraham that he will teach his children after him to follow the ways of The Lord.”
Btw it was Lao-tze who said the quote about thoughts…to character, not Margret Thatcher, although she may have repeated it. It’s a good quote.

This is good to hear among the clatter of empty pans!

Thank you again for sharing your writings 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
There cannot be good/bad without objective truth, and ultimate accountability.
But didnt you know that the truth is what you make it, “we live oru truth now.” Orwell must be laughing his ass off in heaven.

I think this country has faced worse. I am counting on the average American to right the ship.
Thank you for taking the time to comment.

Parents are strict about what they feel is important-eating kale-and not about other stuff like being a good person.
Priorities of many of today’s parents are very skewed. There is very little emphasis on being a good person, but alot on doing what you have to in order to get into an elite college.
By the time you’re six years old you should know the difference between right and wrong.
It’s not “situational “. It doesn’t “depend on the context “.

Actually I have never read that.
So, in spite of the school’s inability or ineptitude, parents have an obligation to teach their own children right from wrong.
Absolutely!
