I know what you mean. Too bad 3 am in Israel is a different time zone.

A month before October 7 I started saying psalms, tehillim, more frequently. So now, if I really can’t sleep, I get up and say tehillim. I have an excellent Artscroll interlinear translation. It makes me feel better that we are part of history, and that these events are reruns of ancient events.

Hah! I dreamed last night. Lost my wristwatch. Real enough to check when I woke up. Pleased it was in place.

Yes I still dream. Perhaps not as much, but maybe that's more function of a senior memory! :-) But I do find it harder to concentrate enough to read serious things for any length of time. T

here is something different "in the air" as they say since 10/7. It's a certain alertness, expectation, anticipation, awareness, or something. Nothing I can quantify, but it's there, just out of reach.

I do sleep well though, and for that I'm grateful. I thought this version of Hashkineinu was perfect to end the day - my eyes leaked, just a little.

Nothing feels right. I think that is the issue.

Here's the English:

Hashkiveinu

Lay us down to sleep in peace, Adonai our God, and raise us up, our leader, to life; spread over us the shelter of your peace. Guide us with your good counsel and save us for the sake of your name. Shield us from foe, plague, sword, famine and anguish. Remove wrongdoing from before us and behind us and shelter us in the shadow of your wings. For it is you, O God, who protects and rescues us; it is you, O God, Who are our gracious and compassionate leader. Safeguard our coming and our going, to life and to peace from now to eternity. Blessed are you, Adonai, who spreads a shelter of peace over all of us.

How about listening to podcasts? Scrolling through Instagram keeps me awake for hours, but listening to podcasts helps me fall asleep. My "go-to" podcasts at the moment are: The Daily Briefing by TOI; Call Me Back with Dan Senor; Yasmine Mohammed; Honestly with Bari Weiss. Good luck and sleep well!
